Much of our spiritual practise is accompanied by a grand old oak tree in our front yard. We call this beautiful being out tree of life. In our hereditary Celtic tradition, the tree of life represents the afterlife, and connection between the earth and heaven. The bond and affection to trees is so deep that we Celts believed the actual trees were our ancestors, gatekeepers to the Celtic Otherworld. As such, the tree of life in our Celtic Culture is sacred.
The tree of life is actually sacred across many cultures and traditions, including Christianity and Judaeism. In the Bible outside of Genesis, the term "tree of life" appears in Proverbs (3:18; 11:30; 13:12; 15:4) and Revelation (2:7; 22:2,14,19). It also appears in 2 Esdras (2:12; 8:52) and 4 Maccabees (18:16), which are included among the Jewish apocrypha.
The tree of life appears in Norse religion as Yggdrasil, the world tree, a massive tree (sometimes considered a yew or ash tree) with extensive lore surrounding it. Perhaps related to Yggdrasil, accounts have survived of Germanic Tribes honouring sacred trees within their societies.
Finally, if you seek greater abundance, wealth and prosperity, the Tree of Life with its fruit-bearing branches, it's deep roots and its fertile seeds is an excellent piece of jewelry to wear or have around the home.
