Safety Note - Crystals in Candles
Here at Nashama Wellness we regular use crystals as part of our health and spiritual practises, along with herbs, acupuncture, medical Qigong and, of course, our range of products right here in our online store.
So why don’t we put them in our candles?
Do you like SurPRISE! Candles?
If not, read on. How many ways can a crystal in a candle cause you to have an unpleasant surprise? Well, there are quite a few!
SurPRISE! #1.Crystals used in candles are not A-Grade and most will contain flaws and impurities. If you were to buy a candle with an A Grade gem, you would be paying several hundred dollars per gemstone.
SurPRISE! #2. When flame or molten wax heats these cheap crystals, you might occasionally and randomly have a crystal explode and send red hot shards of razor-sharp crystal flying across the room with hot wax and possibly fire.
SurPRISE! # 3. Crystals can also cause uneven heating within your candle vessel, which can randomly cause it to break, causing heated crystals, hot wax and possibly fire to fly across the room.
SurPRISE! #4 . Crystals can release toxic fumes when heated. This can be from paint, chemicals used in the manufacturing process, or from impurities within the gemstone.
SurPRISE! # 5. Crystals interfere with the candle testing process. A candle can not be reliably tested with crystals in it, so it is unlikely the candle you have bought has been properly tested and is therefore probably not insured. If you have a problem and your house or family are damaged or injured, your chandler’s insurance will not pay.
SurPRISE! # 6. Crystal science of thermal-conductivity is quite a physics process to ensure safe use of gemstones in a candle. As an earth scientist and engineer, I can calculate that, but most chandlers cannot. They just randomly put the gemstones on the candle and off they go, with few or no safety knowledge or checks. If you have a catastrophic problem with your candle and their insurer asks for the calculations, it is likely they are not available, and the insurance is voided.
Crystals do not impart their vibrational energy to candles. Gem essence, or elixir, is a process which involves purified water, not wax. There are no vibrational benefits to placing gems into a candle.
Using crystals with candles can be a beautiful and enriching meditation practise, but place them around your candle, not touching it, and not in it, to gain the most from your crystal and candle practise. This enables both your best candle care, and your best crystal care.
