Here at Nashama Equine and Wellness, we are not just environmentally conscious, we are socially conscious.
This comes from our many, many years in both animal and human rescue. Since childhood, both Glen and I have been the kids that took home and cared for wounded souls. We get it from our parents. While we have not handled foster siblings for a while, we currently have 3 rescues among our more normally acquired menagerie, and all the horses bar one rescue were bred and trained to deal with wounded human souls.
When it comes to our products, you can guarantee we have researched, then researched again, that what we use is environmentally and socially conscious and leaves the world in a better place than it began in.
In a world of misinformation about palm oil, and whether it can be used, and lots of photos of orangutangs, we use RSPO Palm Oil in our soaps and some of our candles. It is vital in our production of a completely tree nut free range of soaps for our customers who need that. Our NoNuts range came about from a need to avoid all tree nuts, including coconuts, not a whim.

Benefits
There are many benefits of using palm oil and wax.
- It is a 100% natural product.
- The oil is has a reduced chemical load.
- The oil is used in food products and is soap produces a silky bar that is long lasting, moisturising, cleansing and has good lather.
- The wax is a harder compound than soy and its usage normally results in a candle with a long and consistent burn time.
- It does not have the adhesion issues which soy wax often does, so it's no wonder more candle makers around the world are adding palm to their blends in order to achieve the perfect wax.
- Palm oil production supports millions of families around the world economically.
- High productivity - low chemical need. Oil palms have much higher yields than any other vegetable oil plants. They require four to ten times less land than other vegetable oil crops to get the same amount of oil. And that efficient use of land makes palm oil attractive to producers and purchasers around the world. One hectare of oil palms will yield more than double the oil that an equivalent hectare of sunflowers will yield.

Downsides
- High yields and versatility leading to high demand make oil palms attractive to grow. Unregulated production causing mass deforestation, pollution and the destruction the eco-systems which many endangered animals live.

Only one downside to this healthy, versatile oil, but a very significant one.
However, it can be overcome using certified, regulated palm oil.
Who is the regulator? The Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil, or RSPO, https://rspo.org.
At Nashama Equine and Wellness, we have made the deliberate and conscious decision to source any palm oil product exclusively from RSPO (Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified sources.
Our palm oil for soap and our palm wax for candles comes only from companies which certify they use only RSPO wax and oils in their supply chains, and thus in our supply chain.
We can't speak for other companies, but we can guarantee that when you buy any of our products utilising palm oil or wax, it has been sourced from a company that has done its own homework that their palm products are from a registered and certified organisation and grower.
